Posted By sports gal

It was a very exciting weekend for tennis fans with the conclusion of Wimbledon, one of the biggest tennis events of the year.

For the men’s tournament, Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic managed to defeat Swiss legend Roger Federer after a grueling four-hour match. The match ended with a score of 6-7(7), 6-4, 7-6(4) 5-7, 6-4, giving Djokovic his second Wimbledon title, after also winning in 2011. After the win, he was bumped back up to the No.1 position on the ATP rankings

In the women’s tournament, Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic defeated Canada’s sweetheart Eugenie Bouchard in less than an hour 6-3, 6-0. The underdog Bouchard faced a tough challenge as Kvitova also won Wimbledon in 2011. The Wimbledon final was exciting enough for Bouchard as she became the first Canadian to make the Wimbledon final.

The men’s doubles tournament saw new time partners Vasek Pospisill and Jack Sock win over the veteran Bryan brothers. It was an exciting win for the Canadian and American who were just playing in their first tournament together. Italian partners Sara Erranl and Roberta Vinci were the winners for the females doubles tournament.

Next grand slam is the US Open beginning Aug. 25 in New York. But the German Open will also be approaching this month.
