On June 9 Manny Pacquiao fought Timothy Bradley for the WBO (World Boxing Organization) Welterweight (147 lbs) title. Bradley was seen a must fight contender as he was undefeated but the overall consensus was that Manny would walk out of the ring on that Saturday night unscratched. We were all wrong.
What was supposed to be an easy win for Manny; turned into one of the most controversial decisions in boxing history. Bradley won the fight by split decision and in the process reignited the old debate about fights being fixed. What made the result even fishier was the fact that a couple weeks earlier Bradley leaked a picture of a fight poster on his Twitter of a rematch fight between the two boxers. This was before the first fight ever happened.
After the fight the outrage of the result had spread across the sports world. Every analyst who saw the fight felt Manny was cheated. ESPN’s coverage of the fight had the fight scored in Manny’s favour and even the fight promoter, Bob Arum, was upset with the result.
Although the WBO decision confirms what the whole world already thought, Manny won, the official result will still show that Bradley won the fight.
The WBO also announced that if Bob Arum declines to schedule a rematch, they will order for one to take place.
