Murray Looking to Repeat on Home Court

Ah, Wimbledon. The elegance of the All England Club in London; players dressed all in white; grass courts. For tennis purists, it’s the best two weeks of the year. And they begin today with first round play for both the men and the ladies.

Here’s what to watch for:

Men’s singles:
• Last year Andy Murray became the first player from the United Kingdom to win on Wimbledon’s “home courts” in 77 years. He will most definitely have the crowd’s support!
• Along with Murray (#3 seed), Novak Djokovic (#1 seed), Rafael Nadal (#2 seed) and Roger Federer (#4 Seed) are the early favourites
• Canada’s Milos Raonic is the #8 seed

Ladies Singles:
• 2013 ladies singles champion, Marion Bartoli, has since retired from tennis, so we are guaranteed a non-repeat champion this year
• Serena Williams (#1 seed), Maria Sharapova (#5 seed), and Victoria Azarenko (#8 seed) are the favourites
• Canadian Eugenie Bouchard is the #13 seed, but faces a huge challenge: She will have to beat both Williams and Sharapova to make it to the quarterfinals
