It took a five-foot birdie putt for Bernhard Langer to claim the Seniors Players Championship title on Sunday in Pittsburgh. The Seniors tournament is part of a series of tourneys in the Seniors Tour – designed for golfers over 50 years of age. If you are just starting to follow golf, you may not know Bernhard Langer, but the German golfer is a former #1 ranked golfer.
Langer beat American Jeff Sluman in a playoff round to win his third major championship this year and since joining the over-50’s Champions Tour.
The former world number one and two-time Masters champ was very excited about the win, calling it “very satisfying.”
The 56 year-old also walked away with a prize of $405,000!
Langer almost gave away the championship when he gave up a four-shot lead in the final round, but managed to pull things together in the playoff round.
Next up will be the U.S Senior Open Championship at Oak Tree golf course in Edmond Oklahoma from July 10-13.
