Australian Michael Matthews riding for Orica-GreenEdge won the fifth stage of the Spanish Vuelta on Wednesday. He sprinted in front of a crowd at Zamora, after four hours, 28 minutes, and 22 seconds, and 1743 km.
Maximilano Richeze of Argentina and Gianni Meersman of Belgium followed just behind. Astana rider Vincenzo Nibali of Italy kept the overall lead, ahead of RadioShack-Leopard’s Christoper Horner of the U.S. by only three seconds.
Being a perfect gentleman, Matthews dedicated his win to injured teammate Wesley Sulzberger, who left the race with a broken collarbone and elbow during Tuesday’s fourth stage.
Watch to see if any of the racers can spin their way past Nibali!
