We’ve officially moved into the final month of the season, and the first team to be officially eliminated from a pennant race has been named: the Texas Rangers (West Division). The Kansas City Royals have re-taken the lead in the Central, by a very small margin. In the East, the Baltimore Orioles saw their lead grow closer to double digits over the other teams in their division. And on the west coast, the Los Angeles Angels have managed to put a respectable distance between themselves and the Oakland Athletics.
Things to look-out for this week:
*The Athletics are at home against the Seattle Mariners, who are behind them in both the pennant and Wild Card races. The Mariners lost the first game, but winning the last two of the series could keep them from dropping off too far in the post-season chase.
*Derek Jeter (pictured left) embarks on his last month as a professional baseball player. He and the New York Yankees are playing the Boston Red Sox to kick off the week. The Red Sox might be a long shot to repeat as World Series Champs, but the Yankees are still in the Wild Card hunt.
*The Cleveland Indians have surged ahead in the standings the last few weeks. Now they’re at home for three game against the Detroit Tigers, who are directly ahead of them in the Central.
